VFP Luncheon Club

Introducing Our New Community Project

We are excited to present our latest project, born out of extensive discussions within the local community between January and March 2023 at the Evelyn Community Centre. This initiative aims to secure funding to kickstart a community project that will not only get off the ground but also thrive. Our vision is to collaborate with other organizations in the area to establish a sustainable lunch club. This meaningful endeavor holds immense importance for the residents of North Lewisham.

Our Vision

Our Healthy Weekly Luncheon Club is designed to provide Vietnamese members and local residents with an opportunity to escape the confines of their homes, reconnect with old friends, and forge new friendships in a warm, welcoming environment—all while enjoying a delicious, nutritious meal. Our carefully crafted meals cater to the specific dietary needs of our community members. Beyond this, the project opens doors to community volunteering, offering support and companionship to older individuals who may be feeling lonely or socially isolated.

What to Expect

The club will run every Thursday from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m., starting on September 21st, at the Evelyn Community Centre, 1 Kingfisher Square, Deptford SE8 5TW. The service will be available from September 2023 to December 2023, providing a minimum of 50 meals per week and benefiting up to 70 people each week.

Exciting Activities

In addition to the weekly healthy lunches, we will offer engaging activities such as healthy eating workshops in collaboration with community food groups based in the Evelyn Hall, light physical activities, and community gatherings.

Our Target Community

Our primary focus is on the local community in North Lewisham, especially the approximately 4000 Vietnamese residents. This vibrant and diverse BAME community, including a significant number of refugees, has shown incredible resilience and determination in the face of adversity.

Empowering Through Education

We're proud to announce that we have recently secured funding to organize Level 2 Food Hygiene & Safety training courses for up to 25 service users. This initiative not only imparts valuable knowledge and skills but also equips participants with qualifications to work in the food industry. We believe this project will play a pivotal role in boosting confidence and community engagement among those who undergo the training.
